What are some of the excuses you often use to not stick to your resolutions? We are all guilty of making excuses and justifying our lack of motivation, so don’t beat yourself up too much about it. It’s human nature. In fact, our brains are wired that way. We tend to stick to what’s safe and comfortable, and making yourself do things out of your comfort zone requires a strong will and a lot of determination. But you ARE more than capable. All you need to do is change the way you react to temptations. If your goal is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-limited) and your vision clear, you won’t have much problem sticking to your resolutions.
All it takes is rewiring your brain a little. Instead of listening to your excuses, start coming up with solutions instead. In our Weight loss center near Raleigh, we have this theory that you can do anything, as long as you have the right attitude. And what can you do have the right attitude? Change your patterns! Here is a list of common excuses we make to either skip a workout or eat unhealthily, and ways you can turn them into solutions!
1.Excuse: It’s too cold.
Solution: Guess what? Your body gets warm when you move. Want to get warmer? Put on your sneakers and GO.
- Excuse: It’s too hot.
Solution: Too hot for what? Running? No worries. There are still ways you can work out. How about a gym session (AC!) or swimming?
- Excuse: It’s raining.
Solution: Of course you don’t need to risk pneumonia by running in the rain. You can still do decent resistance training in the comfort of your own living room – and you can find free workouts on YouTube. Lunges, squats, jumping jacks, whatever you do: Just get off the couch and move.
- Excuse: I’m too tired.
Solution: Even if it seems counterintuitive, exercising is a great way to boost your energy and endorphins (happiness hormones). If you’re reaaally tired, take it easy. Go for a walk or turn up the music and dance a little – all you need to do is start.
- Excuse: I don’t feel like training today.
Solution: Do you feel like having a strong, fit and healthy body? It won’t magically happen. The choice is yours.
Once you get in the habit of changing excuses into solutions, losing weight will become a breeze. Use your inner voice to your advantage and DON’T sabotage your own efforts. Your dream body is only a few weeks of healthy choices away.
